Kale is a cool season, annual forage brassica with excellent winter hardiness that is well adapted to the Northern Plains. If you are looking for a grazing mix that you can graze late into the Fall and Winter, while experiencing some freezing temperatures, we recommend it above all other brassicas. We've found it to be considerably more winter hardy than any other variety of radish, turnip and even rapeseed. It can grow up to 8' in height, if it reaches full plant maturity, and has a smaller stem. Kale is excellent for rotationally grazing because it has excellent re-growth potential.
