Buckwheat is a warm season, annual broadleaf. It establishes quickly to canopy the soil to aid at suppressing weeds and reaches maturity in as little as 70-90 days. Buckwheat is a great option for green manure and scavenging nutrients, especially Phosphorus. It takes up Phosphorus in the soil that is often unavailable to other crops. As the buckwheat plant & root decomposes it slowly releases those nutrients back into the soil making it available to subsequent crops. It produces an abundance of white flowers that are great for pollinating insects. It tolerates drought conditions and requires very little water. We recommend using buckwheat as a cover crop, pollinator and in wildlife food plots.
